How We Got Here

Kelly Equipment was built on four principals that I learned from my dad and grandfather growing up on the farm in southeast Iowa in the 60s and early 70s.

Hard work always pays off, it is a matter of how much return you get that determines success. My parents had an 80 cow dairy in the 1960s and long hard work was order of the day…every day. In 1968 dad sold the cows (kept one for me to milk for family use) and started raising hogs. Same hard work, just a little more freedom, a little different smell, and a lot better return!

Buy good equipment, it will always pay you back. My grandfather always drove Buick automobiles, big cars with big motors, those cars would run forever. He used to say “they cost a little more up front, but you always get it back in the end.” Only the rich can afford cheap equipment!

Do business with people that help you be successful. Forty years ago, farm equipment dealers were in every town and whistle stop in Iowa. My family did business with a dealer in Pilot Grove, Iowa. In the middle of nowhere, population around 15 and not on most maps, and drove past four other closer dealerships to get there. Why? They were friendly, offered stellar service, and were interested in our farming operations success. That dealership is currently one of the largest in Iowa!

Finally, I believe America is a great place, founded by men who believed the God of this world, Jesus Christ, set the standard of how people can live the happiest together. We live in a great country but we cannot be ignorant of, try to go around, or deny the truth that made us great from the beginning.

I hope we get the chance to work with you when you have equipment needs. We look forward to your call.
